Frequently Asked Questions
1.
What is the discoloration or staining of the roofs
A. The staining is a
fungus (algae) that attaches to the asphalt when the shingles are wet. The
streaking effect occurs as the shingles dry.
2.
What damage can algae do to the roof?
A. Algae holds moisture
and can reduce the life expectancy of your roof.
3.
What can a homeowner do to help stop algae from occurring?
A. Request algae
resistant shingles. The newer shingles have copper granules in the shingles
which helps resist algae from attaching to the shingles. Algae resistant
shingles will help keep your home beautiful.
4.
As a home owner what advance preparations need to be done inside the house?
A. Loose pictures,
fixtures, and other wall mounted items can fall if not firmly attached to the
walls and ceilings. PLEASE check all items to make sure they are secure
or take them down. We cannot be responsible for items that fall from internal
walls.
5. Does the
attic require any advance preparations?
A. If your having a roof
tear-off, small roofing debris (granules, shingle pieces) will fall through the
cracks in the boards. We suggest covering or removing any items that this debris
might hurt. Clean-up of the attic is the responsibility of the homeowner.
6. Will the
work affect my trees?
A. Any low hanging
branches that affect the roof installation will be trimmed by our crews, but
only to that extent. You may want to have extensive tree-trimming done prior to
the roof installation.
7. Will my
gutters be damaged?
A. We will take every
precaution to ensure your gutters are not damaged. Light gauge aluminum gutters
may result in a few small scratches or small dents. We cannot be responsible for
minor scratches or small dents.
8. How do
you know when a new roof is needed?
A. Some signs of roof
failure are buckling or cracking shingles. Widespread pocketing or heavy granule
loss is a sign of roof failure. Also, multiple leaks can be a sign for a need of
a new roof. Please call and we will be glad to inspect and give you an estimate
if needed.
9. how many
layers can you put on a roof?
A. Currently, city code
calls for no more then two layers of roofing material.
10. How long
will the roof installation take?
A. Please call our office
and we will be glad to answer that question to your particular estimate.
11. What if
there are materials left after the job?
A. Our estimates are
based on a complete job. We will not ask for any additional money if our
estimate is short on materials, but any excess material is the property of
Huntingdon Roofing and will be picked up upon completion of your roofing
project.

i do if a leak occurs after the new roof is installed?

problem as soon as possible
